Rafter Chair
Rafter chair is a chair designed for dining environments, made of ash, walnut, or birch wood. It has a Scandinavian aesthetic and yet an elegant appeal that in my humble opinion could easily be used in public spaces and in private environments.
A rafter is one of a series of sloped structural members such as wooden beams that extend from the ridge or hip to the wall plate, downslope perimeter or eave, and that are designed to support the roof deck and its associated loads.
This very type of joint is particularly strong because of its shape and the specific inclination of the cut.
Designing this chair was an attempt to “pay a tribute” to this smart piece of craftsmanship. The meeting between the back legs and the backrest of this dining chair resembles the rafter joint and it works both as a functional and as an aesthetic detail.
